How To Get Audible On Roku TV

Who doesn’t love to cozy up on the sofa and enjoy an audiobook? I know I do! So when I first got my Roku TV, I was very surprised to find out that Audible doesn’t have an app.

Don’t worry, I was able to find a pretty easy workaround. That’s what I am going to cover in this guide. If you have an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, this tutorial is for you. If you have an Android device, you can try this method, but with screen mirroring.

Does Roku have Audible support?

Roku doesn’t have an Audible app, so you can’t listen to audiobooks directly. But if you have an iPhone, iPad, or Mac with the Audible app, you can use Airplay to stream the audiobook directly to your Roku device.

That’s the method that I will cover in this tutorial. It’s the easiest method I’ve found so far. There are some other 3rd party apps that can also work, but I don’t want additional stuff on my phone or Roku.

With this method, you don’t need to install any additional software. You just need an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, the Audible app, and a Roku device that has Airplay support.

Make sure your Roku supports Airplay

Some older Roku TV devices might not support Airplay. You must be running Roku OS 9.4 or higher in order to use the Airplay feature. To check your software version, go to the home screen. Select Settings > System > About.

Still not sure if your Roku supports Airplay? For more detail, check out this page on Roku.com. They have a table of supported model numbers and software levels to reference.

Stream Audible to Roku TV using Apple Airplay

If you have an Apple device and a compatible Roku, here is how to stream Audible audiobooks to your Roku using Airplay.

Step 1 – Open Audible on your device

On your iPhone, iPad, or Mac device, open the Audible app.

Step 2 – Select the audiobook you want to stream

Open up the audiobook that you want to stream to Roku. In this case, I’m listening to the classic Game of Thrones book, which I highly recommend!

Notice the Airplay icon above the play button that says Connect to Device. Tap it to start an Airplay stream.

Step 3 – Connect to your Roku with Airplay

After hitting Connect to Device, select AirPlay & Bluetooth Devices.

You should see your Roku TV device under the Speakers & TVs section. As you can see in the screenshot above, I’m streaming to my device called ’50in onn. Roku TV’.

Once you select the Airplay device, hit the play button on your Roku remote, or your Apple device if the audiobook isn’t already playing. You can control the volume, start/stop, and skipping with the Roku remote or your Apple device.

Final thoughts

Audible isn’t available directly on Roku devices, but there is a workaround by using Airplay to stream audiobooks from your iPhone to a Roku. I find the method I showed above to be reliable and easy to do. It’s not as good as native Roku support, but it works well enough.

The best part is that, if you have a compatible Roku and an Apple device, you don’t need to install anything extra. You can take advantage of existing features. If you have any issues or questions, let me know in the comments!
