Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 Review

The Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 is an indoor/outdoor portable Bluetooth speaker. While most portable Bluetooth speakers are small and light, the Monster is just that, a true monster of a speaker. Weighing just under 30 lbs, this speaker system delivers some serious power, battery life, and sound.
Although this speaker is made of plastic, the initial impression you get from this thing is weight and quality. Even before you listen to it, the looks are impressive. The slate colored mesh speaker grills are a great accent for the textured black speaker housing. The carrying handle is beefy with a large logo. The built in wheels make it easy to move around.
This is the type of speaker you want for outdoor events, or large indoor spaces. If you are camping, tailgating, or throwing a house party, the Monster will be able to deliver 270 degrees of full sound just about anywhere, with hours and hours of playback.
Volume
With 4 separate speakers and 200 watts of total peak output, volume is not an issue. The Monster is loud enough for indoor and outdoor spaces where you need lots of volume. One thing I noticed is that the Monster sounds best when you turn the built-in volume knob all the way up, and then control volume using your phone or other Bluetooth device.
Clarity and Distortion
This speaker has multiple drivers that all have different jobs. The most powerful driver delivers rich bass, while the midrange drivers and tweeter focus on the mids and highs. This separation means no distortion, and crisp, clear audio at all volume levels. I didn’t notice any distortion issues even at max volume, using high quality music sources on my iPhone.
Sound Quality
The Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 has a lot more bass and fullness than your typical small Bluetooth speaker. If you’re used to the smaller speakers, you will be blown away at what can be accomplished with a larger, more powerful speaker system.
Quality is what you would expect in a speaker system at this price range. Sound quality isn’t as good as a pair of dedicated music bookshelf speakers, but that isn’t what the Monster is designed for. In a noisy environment, the Monster delivers clear punchy bass and mids, perfect for your party soundtrack.
Controls

The front control panel has everything you need to control the speaker. From bass and treble adjustments, to volume, to source selection. I liked the large volume knob and number buttons to dial up an FM station.
I also liked the LED screen and battery indicator that lets you know exactly what is going on with the speaker at all times.
The Monster has a companion app that allows you to control most aspects of the speaker. You’ll be able to do things like adjust the EQ or change the color of the RGB LED via the app.
Features
In addition to the typical Bluetooth speaker functions, the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 has the ability to charge your smartphone via a USB port or Qi wireless charging.
You’ll also get a 1/4 inch input jack to hook up a guitar or microphone.
The Monster is rated IPX4 water resistant, so you don’t have to worry about water splashing on it.

And coolest of all the extra features, you can pair up two Monster’s to play music through both speakers simultaneously. The pairing can be done wirelessly or wired with the included 3.5mm audio cable.
Battery Life
Battery life is where the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 shines. You’ll get up to 100 hours of playback. That’s more than just about anyone will ever need. That kind of battery life makes it perfect for multi-day camping trips, remote job sites, and more. With built in phone charging, you can also use some of that battery power to recharge your mobile devices.
What I Liked
- 200 watts of power
- Water resistant
- Rugged, tough look
- Lots of input choices. 1/4 inch, 3.5mm, Bluetooth, FM
- The ability to pair with another Monster speaker
- Handy mobile app
What I Didn’t Like
- Really heavy for a “portable” speaker, although it does include wheels and a nice handle
- Sounds best when volume control is turned up all the way, and using the adjustable volume on the Bluetooth source device
- Limited color options
Bottom Line: Do I Recommend the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270?
Yes, I recommend the Monster Rockin’ Roller 270 for anyone needing a loud, powerful party speaker for indoor and outdoor events. If you are going to need sound for a large space, this kind of Bluetooth speaker is the way to go. If you need to fill just a single smaller room with sound, consider something smaller and lighter.
For the price, you get 100 hours of battery life, the ability to charge your phone with the Qi wireless charger, LED accent lighting, and a powerful built-in amplifier. You’d be hard-pressed to find other portable speakers that pack this many features into such a package as the Monster.
Mine quit working after one year. No help from Monster. Expensive for one year.
