The W-KING D8 50W Bluetooth Speaker is a portable, battery powered Bluetooth speaker designed to be rugged, waterproof, and shockproof. That makes it a perfect fit for job sites and other harsh environments. If you work in a warehouse or on a construction site and you don’t want to worry about flimsy electronics, this is a speaker that you can set and forget.

The D8 is rated at 50 watts output, 70 watts peak. That’s enough power to deliver some impressive volume. If you set the D8 on your toolbox, you’ll be able to hear music from across the shop with ease.

Battery life is another area where the W-KING D8 shines. Get up to 30 hours of playback time. Battery life will vary based on your listening volumes, but 30 hours is impressive for the price range and speaker type.

W-KING 50W Bluetooth Speaker Review

My initial impression of the W-KING D8 50W Bluetooth speaker was how thick and tough the plastic exterior is. Plastic, when done right, can be really strong and durable. I think W-KING really nailed the design. It’s a portable speaker, so it needs to be lightweight. But when you are designing a speaker for harsh environments, it also needs to be tough. All the drivers and passive bass radiators in this design are protected from impacts and drops. The design lends itself perfectly for those tough environments.

Besides being tough enough to withstand water and impacts, a portable Bluetooth speaker should also be loud enough to overcome background noise. If you are in a noisy shop with power tools, you need a speaker capable of good volume so you can hear the music while working. With up to 70 watts peak power, the W-KING D8 is up to the task.

Let’s get into the details:

Volume

The W-KING D8 delivers sound from 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 passive bass radiators. The 4 drivers have up to 70 watts of power to deliver great volume in any environment. I had no issues with volume while using the D8 outside, in the garage, or filling up the inside of the house with music.

Clarity and Distortion

Even at max volume, the W-KING D8 delivers great clarity and is free of any distortion. You can crank this speaker up without worrying about your sound quality degrading.

Sound Quality

The bass radiators really add a nice level of controlled bass to this speaker. It’s not too boomy. The sound quality is perfectly acceptable for a small portable Bluetooth speaker. You’re not going to get stereo separation or anything like that from this kind of speaker, so the most important quality is volume and not having distortion or sound quality degradation.

Controls

The controls on the W-KING D8 are simple and easy to use. There are large buttons on the top for volume, play/pause, power, and EQ modes. I appreciate the fact that the buttons are so large and easy to use with gloves on, or when your hands are full.

The AUX jack, USB charge output, and USB-C charging input port are under a protective cover in the back.

Features

One of the neat features that sets the D8 apart from other rugged portable Bluetooth speakers is the ability to pair with another D8 speaker to form a stereo pair. You could put one on each side of the shop and get more volume, bass, and sound coverage.

Another feature that has started to become common with Bluetooth speakers is the built in charge capability for USB devices. Plug your phone in via USB and charge it up.

The Bluetooth range is about 100 feet, which is significantly more than most other Bluetooth speakers. That kind of range makes it a great option for jobsites and shops where you might be walking around with your phone, quite a ways away from the speaker.

Finally, this speaker has a built in microphone so you can use it for hands-free calling.

Battery Life

Typical battery life will be up to 30 hours. That’s right in range with most other Bluetooth speakers in this price range. That gives you about 3 typical 8 hour shifts before needing a recharge.

What I Liked

  • IPX6 water, dust, impact resistance
  • Dual bass radiators
  • Carrying strap/handle
  • Strong durable plastic

What I Didn’t Like

  • Only 2 EQ modes, not a lot of tuning available
  • Doesn’t come with a power brick, only a USB charging cable

Bottom Line: Do I Recommend the W-KING D8 50W Bluetooth Speaker?

I recommend the W-KING D8 50W Bluetooth Speaker to anyone who needs a tough little Bluetooth speaker that packs some serious bass punch for the size. With dual passive radiators and 4 active drivers, the D8 gets loud and sounds great, even in loud environments.

The only two downsides are more like nitpicks. There isn’t much EQ tuning available, and the speaker only comes with a USB charging cable. You’ll need your own USB brick that plugs into an AC outlet. Other than that, this is a solid speaker at this price.
